The LPGA Tour has enjoyed a two week break but this week the returns to work when the Safeway Classic is played at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plaines in Oregon. The 54 hole event begins on Friday with all ten of the leading world ranked players expected to tee it up.
The Robert Cupp designed Ghost Creek layout at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club played host to this event for the first time in 2009 but did play host to the US Women’s Open in 2003 and 1997.
Last year Korean golfer, M.J. Hur broke through for her first LPGAS Tour victory when she defeated Suzanne Pettersen and Michelle Redman at the second hole of a three way playoff, all three players back in 2010.
Australians in the field are Karrie Webb, recent runner up finisher at the British Women’s Open, Katherine Hull, Lindsey Wright, Rachel Hetherington, Michelle Ellis, Sarah Kemp, Anna Rawson and Sarah Jane Smith
Hetherington, an eight time winner on the LPGA Tour and Australia’s second highest career money earner, has played only three events on the LPGA Tour this season following a skateboard accident earlier in year.
